My parents are both missionaries in Mexico and I have three tattoos. My belief on tattoo's is that when God said to "not make any cuttings in your flesh on account of the dead or tattoo any marks upon you", he intended that towards satanic rituals. Before I got my first tattoo, I prayed about it for months, and I spoke to my Pastor about what he thought. It is my belief that when it comes to a tattoo or marking on your body, the meaning of the tattoo is what really matters. My three tattoos have strong meaning to me that will never change. I don't have anything evil on my body, nor do I have anything stupid on my body. I treat my body as a temple, just as the bible says to do.

I am a Christian, I grew up in the church. Thank you.I have been a Christian since 1991, and have been a preacher in the Methodist Church for the last 16 years.I had my 4 Christian tattoos done over the last 8 years, and I am proud that each one of them is a symbol of Christian witness, especially the fish that I have on my wrist, which is there for all to see. People do ask me about them and I am proud to explain that they are an expression of my faith in Jesus Christ.Being a preacher I do have a reasonable understanding of the teachings of the Bible (!) and (as I think someone has already said) the Lord gave the command that we have recorded in Lev. 19:28 because he didn't want His people to be in any way associated with the practises of pagan groups, but to strive for holiness and obedience to His covenant - God also condemns other pagan practises such as incest and child sacrifice in the Bible.I believe that everyone should consider prayerfully what to do if they are considering a tattoo. I also believe that we are to glorify God with our bodies and not abuse what God has created, so we need to know where to draw the line. With my tattoos declaring my faith and my love for Jesus, I believe that God is glorified. One final word though - we needn't think that we will be punished for getting a tattoo if we are a Christian. After all, God gave His Son for us on the cross to pay for our sins and assure us of grace and forgiveness (see Romans 8:1). Whilst this assurance doesn't give us a licence to sin, it shouldn't make us live in fear of punishment either. At the end of the day, we each have a unique, personal relationship with God and we must do what we feel is right with Him.

Hi,

I have found this an interesting series of comments. I believe God was happy for me to get my butterfly/Cross tattoo with the inscription "Romans 8:1-3" on my back. Otherwise he would either have given me the desire not to do so, or I would never have found the right tattoo. I say this because I was 30 when I had the tattoo done, and I had never found the right image until just after my car accident. That's my own personal experience. I would recommend to anyone looking at getting a tattoo that they pray about it. Seriously Pray about it, as it's on your body for the rest of your life.

I prayed about getting a tattoo done for years, and it wasn’t until my car accident a couple of years ago when I found a tattoo which fit the bill, and I was able to get it done. I struggled with the idea if it was Ok in my God's eyes to get a tattoo, as I wanted one but not if it was frowned upon by my lord. I did what all people who have a personal relationship with Jesus do. I asked him, and prayed and waited on his answer before going ahead and getting it done. Obviously if I have gotten one, you know what the answer was. By the way he has not stopped working in me, or using me to bring him glory. BTW the tattoo i have is a wooden cross looking like it is protruding my skin in my left arm. I would consider an angel tattoo in the future, only after prayer if I get the answer to do so.

I actually have a tattoo, that is less than a year old, but have been “saved” for over 15 yrs.
