Like many people, I am shocked at what Rev. Terry Jones (of the Dove World Outreach Center in Gainesville, US) is about to do—burn the Koran. He does not speak for the vast majority of Christian people—just like Islamic terrorists do not speak for the vast majority of Muslims.
In the Bible; Acts 17:16-34, we learn how the Apostle Paul witnessed to the men of Athens. Did he take a wooden bat and shatter their statues (which were set up to honour their false gods)? No. Instead, he used a statue with an inscription ‘To the unknown god’ in order to witness to them.
Did he burn their scrolls of Poetry? No, he actually quoted some of it (Probably from Epimenides of Crete) in order to reach them.
So here’s a message for Rev. Terry Jones: If you want to do something outrageous, at least target the right people and do something bold that is ethical. Get a stack of all the DVDs you and your congregation may own, which contain sex, nudity and blasphemies against God (such as Oh my G**, J***S C***T! and O*G) and burn these instead! Send a message to Hollywood about the unethical and unholy material they release—especially when aimed at children. You should be trying to share the Gospel Message to Muslims, not alienating them.
If you’re choosing to be Bold for Christ, at least do something that won’t cost other peoples lives.
